In Kerala, a section of government employees and teachers owing allegiance to Left and BJP trade unions are on a day's strike today, in protest against the Governments decision to implement contributory pension scheme from the next fiscal.The strike has affected the functioning of government offices and public transport services. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has clarified that the proposed contributory pension scheme will not in any way affect the existing employees and it will be applicable to only those who join government service from 1st April,2013.Chief Minister also assured that any genuine concern of the employees will be addressed through negotiations. Following the Chief Ministers clarification,employees of the pro-Congress and ruling United Democratic Front unions have withdrawn from the strike.
