In Kerala, normal life was affected today by the dawn to dusk strike. The bandh has been called by the ruling LDF, demanding a country-wide ban on Endosulfan pesticide. Shops and business establishments by and large remained closed, public transport services did not operate. Except a few private vehicles and two wheelers, vehicles largely remained off the road and offices reported thin attendance. Stray incidents of forcible closure of offices and banks, road blockade and stoning were reported from some parts of the state. The strike however, remained by and large peaceful so far. The strike did not have much impact on the industries in Kochi region. The strike did not affect production in PSUs like FACT, Kochi Refineries and the Cochin Shipyard. However, movement of goods from Cochin Port to various other regions in the state was affected. Strike supporters took out rallies at various places in the state, including the state capital Thiruvananthapuram, demanding a complete ban on Endosulfan.
