Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan today warned of a fine of up to one lakh rupees, and a jail term, if new post GST rates are not printed on the inventory in the interest of consumers. He said, manufacturers have been allowed to clear the unsold stocks by September with new MRP. <br/><br/>The Minister said, non-compliance of this will attract a fine of 25 thousand rupees for first offence, 50 thousand rupees for a repeat offence, and penalty of up to one lakh rupees for third offence onwards and even imprisonment of up to one year. <br/><br/>Briefing reporters in New Delhi today, the Minister said, it is mandatory to print revised MRP on the inventory, else stringent action will be taken for violation of the Packaged Commodities Rules. He said, Consumer affairs department has set up a committee of officials to protect the interest of consumers and see that they are not cheated by shopkeepers. <br/><br/>Mr Paswan said, the items sold through online platform must display in bold letters – the MRP, net quantity, date of expiry and name of manufacturer. Mr Paswan urged state governments to give reservation in allotment of licenses for fair price shops. He said, the Ministry has written a letter to states to make provision for reservation for SC and ST people.
