In wake of the alarmingly increasing poor air quality index in Mumbai over the last few days, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal has issued a strong warning saying strict action will be taken if dust and pollution control measures are not implemented at construction sites. Currently, construction is underway at 6,000 locations around the city and dust is a major factor behind the increase in air pollution.&nbsp;<br />'' <br />'' During a joint review meeting, BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal today said that new guidelines for dust and pollution control will be issued next week on Monday, and it will be mandatory to follow them by all agencies and systems, otherwise, action will be taken against them. He has also given a strong warning that dust and pollution control measures should be implemented at all the construction sites, otherwise, such constructions, whether private or government, will be stopped. BMC Commissioner instructed that it is mandatory to enclose the places of buildings under construction with 35-foot-high sheets to prevent dust. He has also given directions to install sprinklers at all construction sites within fifteen days and a smog gun system within a month. He said that 50 to 60 major roads will be micro-sprayed with smog guns in the morning. He also gave instructions to review air quality in the vicinity of refineries. Chahal also urged that the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board should hold an urgent meeting with other municipal corporations and related organizations in the Mumbai region and speed up the measures for dust and pollution control.
