Strengthen local police system to tackle terror in NE states: Meghalaya Governor

Meghalaya Governor Dr Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary emphasized on the need for strengthening local police system to tackle the increasing menace of cross border terrorism and insurgency in north eastern states. He said without strengthening local police, the fight against terror would be futile. He said states should create their own strength and need not depend always on central forces. Dr Mooshahary was addressing the concluding session of the DGPs & IGPs of the north eastern states and West Bengal in Shillong today. The meeting was convened by Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Dr. Mooshahary also advocated the need for withdrawal of the special power arms act in certain north eastern states. He said except Manipur and part of Assam the entire north east is seen to be in peace.
