The government has emphasised the need for having a well developed grievance redressal machinery to meet expectations of the common man and to bring transparency in its workings. Expressing concern over public ignorance of the Centralized Public Grievances Redress And Monitoring System (CPGRAMS), Cabinet Secretary Mr. Ajit Seth today said that all Ministries and Departments at the Centre and State, need to publicise it widely, so that people could use this online facility.Regretting that many organisations have still not upgraded and streamlined their grievance redress mechanisms, he said there needs to be better coordination for expeditious disposal of grievances. He was addressing a two day workshop on Capability Building of Ministries and Departments for Proper Delivery of Services in New Delhi this morning. The Cabinet Secretary asserted that the citizens charter is the most visible part of a Department and it must reflect its commitment and services as a mirror. He said that it is the first interface between the citizen and the department where a citizen learns about the services, procedures and outcomes of a particular organisation. He asked the departments to deliver according to promises made in the Citizens Charter.
AIR correspondent reports that several Ministries and Departments of the Central and State governments are regularly being sensitized on an effective public grievance redressal mechanism through these workshops.
