Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said, India and ASEAN have embarked on a new journey of closer co-operation and deeper ties for peace, progress and prosperity of the region and the world at large. Dr. Singh said this while flagging down the India Asean Car Rally in New Delhi this morning.

Emphasising the need for better connectivity between India and ASEAN countries, Dr.Manmohan Singh said that physical bonds will be strengthened by digital links which will help the younger generation come nearer.

Dr. Singh said, this will help unleash the vast economic potential of the region, accelerate development and deepen the strategic partnership. Dr.Singh said, the India – Asean future will be driven by the bonds of connectivity we build in the coming days.

He said, the car rally that traversed 8000 km in eight countries in 22 days symbolises the vision of ASEAN-India countries where goods and services can flow freely.

He said, establishment of educational institutions in the north eastern states will provide connectivity and mutual prosperity. He said, India and ASEAN have set a new paradigm in their relationship by elevating it to Strategic Partnership level.

He said, the succesful finalising of the Free Trade agreement in Services and investment will prove to be as transformational as the ASEAN-INDIA FTA in goods.
