In Sikkim, some four thousand tourists returned safely to Gangtok this morning. They had got stranded on their way back from the picturesque Chhangu Lake and the Baba Mandir near Nathula on the Indo-China border as heavy landslide and shooting boulders blocked the Gangtok-Nathula Jawahalal Nehru Road last evening. The President of the Travel Agents’ Association of Sikkim Mr. Lukendra Rasaily told our Gangtok correspondent that the stranded tourists were taken well care of by the Army as well as the villagers of the area who also arranged for their overnight stay.He told that as the Border Roads Organisation cleared the road in the morning today, all the four hundred eighteen vehicles carrying the tourists returned back to Gangtok. However, many of them could not leave for Siliguri in West Bengal for their return journeys due to the Bharat Bandh ,called by various political parties today, Mr. Rasaily said.
