The three week long monsoon session of the Maharashtra Legislature began on a stormy note today. Even before the start of the session, members of all the major opposition parties blocked the entrance of the Assembly building and raised slogans against the government. Later, when the session began, leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly, Eknath Khadse demanded that the question hour be adjourned and a comprehensive discussion on the Mantralaya fire issue be held. Amidst the din and the noise, Speaker Dilip Walse Patil adjourned the house for an hour.Meanwhile, addressing a press conference in Mumbai yesterday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had said that the government was ready to discuss the fire issue apart from holding discussions on the disputed Belgaum area, Adarsh scam, irrigation, female foeticide and law and order situation. He said, although some important papers were destroyed in the Mantralaya fire; regular working of both the Houses will not be affected. He informed that seven new Bills will be introduced in this session apart from processing 11 pending Bills.
