The Agriculture Minister Mr. Sharad Pawar has said, the government has taken steps to augment production and productvity of rabi crops to partially offset the losses in Kharif. Mr. Pawar was addressing 81th Annual General Meeting of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research in New Delhi yesterday. He said improved soil moisture due to late monsoon rains has brightened the prospects of rabi production in the entire country. Mr. Pawar said, fisheries has emerged as a sector with great potential to ensure food, livelyhood and nutritional security. The Minister of State for Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Professor K V Thomas called upon the agricutural scientists to work in some core areas which need to sustain into 2050 when we have to nourish the largest national population in the world.
