The Bombay High Court today adjourned the hearing on a stay imposed by it on the demolition of the Adarsh Society building in Mumbai till 27th of this month. It said status quo will be maintained in the case till the next hearing.In January 2011, the Environment Ministry had ordered that the 31-storey building be demolished within three months for violating the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) regulations. The notice ends tomorrow. The ministry in its order said the unauthorised 31-storey structure built in Mumbai's upscale Colaba area should be removed in its entirety within three months and the area be restored to its original condition. A month after the order was issued; the society approached the Bombay High Court against the order. Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has opined that pulling down the Adarsh Society building was the only option before the state government if the High Court does not give an extension. Although former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan bore the brunt of the Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society scam and quit in December, more names of politicians and bureaucrats were linked to it.Meanwhile, a two-member committee comprising former Bombay high court judge Justice J A Patil and former chief secretary P Subramanyam, set up by the state government to probe the Adarsh society scam, inspected the building today along with their aides. However, after inspecting the building they said that it is too early to take any decision.
