Chairman of the steering committee of IFFI Mike Pandey said that states should have a uniform policy to promote its regional cinema. He said this is a powerful, thought provoking cinema and need to be promoted. It reflects the passage of time and transition happening in the country as a whole.Speaking at ‘Open Forum’ organized on the topic of ‘Future of Regional Cinema’ on the sidelines of the ongoing 42nd International Film Festival of India at Panaji on Wednesday, Pandey asserted that multiplexes are an impediment for regional cinema as these are out of the reach of many people.Small clubs at Panachayat or Block level should be created to provide affordable cinema to those who cannot afford to pay more. He said the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting is working on it.Meanwhile, two of the regional filmmakers from Karnataka who are showcasing their films at IFFI said that non-Hindi cinema did not receive proper slots at film festivals as a whole, resulting in poor response by the audience
