States have agreed to strengthen machinery for effective implementation of protection of women from domestic violence act. The issue was discussed at the two day conference of state ministers in New Delhi. The two day Conference also decided to implement the laws prohibitng dowry and child marriage. <br/><br/>They, however, pleaded for more financial assistance to meet the desired objectives. According to an official press release issued after the two day meeting, the states raised the issue of sensitising of judicial officers so that cases concerning violence against women are attended on priority.<br/><br/>For addressing the issues of malnutrition faced by children in many states, it was agreed to set up a nutrition council at the state level with adequate funds. In his concluding remarks, the Secretary, in the ministry of women and child development, Mr. D.K. Sikri urged the states to take full advantage of schemes launched by the Centre for the welfare of women and child development.
