The two-member judicial panel appointed by the Maharashtra government conducted its first hearing in the Adarsh housing society scam today. Mumbai City Collector, MMRDA and BMC officials, and lawyer representing the Ministry of Defence appeared before the panel consisting of retired Bombay High Court Judge J A Patil and former State Chief Secretary P Subramaniam today. In today’s hearing, Town Planner of MMRDA Mr. Chandramani Khandare submitted 13 files related to Adarsh society. After going through the documents, the panel suggested that the MMRDA officer should compile the documents again. Mumbai City Collector Mr. C.V. Oak, who also testified before the commission, said that compilation of documents will take some more time and sought additional time to produce all Adarsh related documents. The panel then asked the collector to submit his papers by the 25th of this month. Later the lawyer representing the Ministry of Defence also sought time till next Monday for his submissions. Meanwhile, an official of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also submitted two sets of documents. Several other witnesses have been asked to testify before the panel and bring with them vital and relevant documents along with photocopies for examination during the proceedings. The two member panel was formed on 8th of January this year to look into the irregularities of the Adarsh co-operative housing society. The panel has been given time till July 17th to submit a report and recommend measures to bring more transparency in the land allotment procedures.
