The Congress has said that the state governments should act against hoarders and profiteers to control the price rise of food commodities. Talking to reporters in New Delhi on Tuesday, the party spokesman Manish Tiwary said that the UPA government is sensitive about the price rise in the country and the real challenge is how to reduce the gap between farm-gate prices and consumer prices.Because the power to actually take action against profiteers, against hoarders, against people who speculate are with the state government and we do hope that the state governments would exercise these powers efficaciously similarly as the Central Government did so last week when it conducted very widespread raid through its own investigative agencies, through its enforcement agencies against hoarding and profiteering in different parts of the country. On the other hand, Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley alleged that the government has failed to control price rise in the country. The Prime Minister is known as a great economist but as an economist, he seems to have failed to figure out how to bring down prices over the last two – three years.
