<span style="color: #222222;">In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, overruling all objections, the State Election Commission (SEC) yesterday reserved offices of chairpersons of District Development Councils (DDCs) for Schedule Cates, Schedule Tribes and Women.<br />''<br />''The order issued yesterday by the State Election Commission rejected the objections/ representations filed against draft reservation of offices of chairpersons of DDCs. The order reads, it was found that none of the objections/ representations so received had any merit. According to the order, out of 20 DDC seats across the Union Territory, six seats have been reserved for women and two each for Schedule Castes and Scheduled Tribes. While Baramulla, Ganderbal, Shopian, Ramban and Kishtwar districts have been reserved for women, Poonch district has been reserved for women from Schedule Tribe category. Whereas, seats of Anantnag and Rajouri districts have been reserved for Schedule Tribes while Jammu and Udhampur seats have been reserved for Scheduled Castes. With unveiling of reservation for the posts of DDC chairpersons, elections would be held within next 20 days for these offices. The DDC elections were held in the month of November-December after the Union Home Ministry amended J&amp;K Panchayat Raj Act 1989 under Jammu &amp; Kashmir Reorganisation Act-2019.</span>
