With the formation of the new government in Manipur, the State departments have intensified the War on Drugs Campaign at the nook and corner of the State. Since 20th of last month till today, the State has been able to seize illegal drugs worth around 182 crore thirty lakh in the international market and at the same time destroyed 380 acres of poppy cultivation in the State.<br />''  <br />'' The anti drug and Poppy cultivation campaign was launched by the Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh in his previous tenure as Chief Minister to make Manipur Drug and Poppy free Manipur. This time the Chief Minister has instructed officials of all concerned departments to intensify the campaign. On the other hand, many tribes have taken resolutions to make a free zone of drug and Poppy cultivation. The State government has been making alternative livelihood arrangements for those farmers who left cultivation of Poppy plants.<br />''  <br />'' In a press briefing held today at Imphal,  Biren Singh said that several drug traffickers including Myanmarese have been arrested. Informing that several tribes started supporting the War on Drug Campaign, Shri Biren said that the Tangkhul and Poumai which are the largest tribes of the Nagas in Manipur have declared their areas under a drug free zone and to stand against Poppy cultivation. Moreover, Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme tribes along with village Chiefs of different Kuki inhabited districts of Manipur also decided to join hands with the government in the War on Drug Campaign.<br />''<br />''He said that the first village which voluntarity destroyed Poppy cultivation in their area was rewarded with Rupees ten lakh and now the villagers have started alternative cropping and plantations like ginger have already begun production in huge quantities.
