State budget presented in Kerala assembly

In Kerala, Finance Minister Dr. Thomas Issac has presented the state budget focusing on social security and welfare measures for the financial year 2011-12 in the state Assembly today. The popular budget prior to the assembly election has no new tax proposal. Apart from welfare measures, the last budget of the present LDF government focuses on price control mechanism of essential items and infrastructure development. For comprehensive road development 1000 core has been kept apart in the budget. Five major cities of Kerala including capital city Tiruvananthapuram will be modernised. An amount of 900 crore has been earmarked for this. Dr Thomass Issac also said that 40 lakh families of Kerala will be included in the BPL list of the state. Increase in remuneration of Aankanwadi and ASHA workers and introduction of pension for domestic helps are the other highlights of Kerala budget 2011-12.
