Standing committee report on Lokpal tabled in Parliament

A Parliamentary standing committee has recommended that the Institution of Lokpal must be given Constitutional status.

The Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances and Law and Justice, which presented its report on Lokpal Bill 2011, in both the Houses of Parliament today, also suggested that such a Constitutional status will enhance the stature, legal and moral authority of the Lokpal institution.

The Committee in its several recommendations feels that the according such a status to the Lokpal machinery will go a long way in enhancing its efficacy and in providing a heeling touch to the common man.

The Committee has recommended that, at the federal level group A and B officers will be included while group c and d have been exempted.

While Mr Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Chairman of the Standing Committee, presented the report in the Rajya Sabha, Mr Pinaki Mishra tabled it in the Lok Sabha.
