Stalemate on Jharkhand Govt formation likely to be over

The stalemate about the formation of new Government in Jharkhand seems to finally come to an end after more than 10 days power struggle between the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Bhartiya Janata Party on the issue of the Chief Minister's post. BJP Parliamentary Board will meet tomorrow to decide on its Chief Ministerial candidate.
The BJP will head the new Government in the state with the support of JMM's 18 MLAs and AJSU's 05 MLAs alongwith 02 MLAs of the JD(U). The BJP has 18 MLAs in the House. The new coalition Government, to be formed under the Chief Ministership of BJP, will have a clear cut majority of 43 members in the 81 member Jharkhand Assembly.
The decision for the change of guard in the Government was made in New Delhi at a meeting at the residence of BJP's national President, Nitin Gadkari, in which JMM's legislature party leader Hemant Soren and AJSU Chief Sudesh Mahto also participated.
But, contrary to the BJP leadership's claim in New Delhi, the JMM Chief and the present Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Shibu Soren, asserted in Ranchi yesterday that the BJP and the JMM would share power in the state on rotational basis. His statement was supported by JMM's senior leader and Human Resource Developement Minister in the Shibu Soren cabinet, Hemlal Murmu.
In another development, senior JMM leader and MLA, Simon Marandi, who is leading a group of dissident MLAs in the party, once again reiterated his previous decision to oppose formation of any Government in the state under the leadership of BJP.
The crisis was triggered after the BJP Parliamentary Party Board decided to withdraw support to the JMM Government under the leadership of Shibu Soren on April 28, after Soren voted against a BJP sponsored cut motion in the Lok Sabha on April 27. The decision was, however, kept on hold by the party's central leadership .
