Stalemate continues over seat sharing between BJP-Shiv Sena in Maharashtra

The seat sharing tussle between Shiv Sena and BJP still continue without any breakthrough. Both Sena and BJP are discussing the seat sharing matter with their top leaders in each of its respective bastions. The other allies of grand alliance including Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghtana, Rashtriya Samaj Paksh, Shivsangram and Republic Party of India (Athavale faction) are also raising their demands and their rounds of discussions are on with Shiv Sena President at his residence Matoshree.

BJP Central Election Committee is meeting in New Delhi to discuss stalemate over seat-sharing with Shiv Sena in Maharashtra. The meeting is being attended among others by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president Amit Shah, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Sushma Swaraj. It is discussing ways to convince its oldest ally to accept its formula of contesting 135 seats each in next month's assembly election in the State.

Earlier in the day, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray gave a final proposal to BJP saying his party will contest on 151 seats and give 119 seats to BJP. The other allies will be given 18 seats.

Reacting to Thackeray's ultimatum, BJP said it is the duty of both the parties to continue the alliance and sort out issues through direct talks instead of speaking through the media. It said there is nothing new in Shiv Sena's final offer.
