In Uttar Pradesh, all preparations for the fourth Phase of the Assembly elections on Sunday are complete. More than 18,000 polling parties will leave for the polling booths today while security forces have already reached and have conducted flag marches in several areas. Polling will take place from 7 am to 5 pm.AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that 967 candidates, including 91 women, are in the fray for this phase. More than 18,600 polling stations are being set up for over 1.74 crore voters. The districts going to poll in this phase are Lucknow, Hardoi, Banda, Pratapgarh, Rae Bareli, Farrukhabad, Unnao, Chitrakoot, Chhatrapati Sahuji Nagar and Kannauj.Elaborate Security arrangements have been made for peaceful and impartial polling. Extra security precautions have been taken in sensitive areas of Chitrakoot, Banda, Pratapgarh and Lucknow. About 760 companies of both Central Para Military Force and Provincial Armed Constabulary along with police personnel from other states have been deployed. Two choppers would also be pressed into service for aerial survey of the Chitrakoot-Banda belt. Inter-state border with Madhya Pradesh with Chitrakoot and Banda would be sealed from this evening to prevent entry of anti-social elements.Mobile units of security forces are deployed at rivers of Yamuna and local rivers to check the movements of troublemakers during polling. The Commission has asked the outsiders for leaving the areas going for poll. Authorities have been asked to conduct searches at hotels, lodges and other places for stay.The Election Commission has taken several steps to increase voter’s participation, including distribution of voters’ slip and setting up at polling booths. An independent mobile phone number is in operation to respond the SMS of voters about their polling booths.
