Stage set for Pranab’s presidential swearing in

Pranab Mukherjee will take over as the 13th President of India today. Chief Justice of India Justice SH Kapadia will administer him the oath of office at the Central Hall of Parliament. Among those present at the swearing-in ceremony will be Vice-President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, Members of Council of Ministers, Governors, Chief Ministers, Heads of Diplomatic Missions, Members of Parliament and Principal Civil and Military Officers of the Government of India.

All India Radio will broadcast live the swearing-in ceremony from 10.50 AM. An official release said outgoing President Pratiba Devisingh Patil and President-elect Pranab Mukherjee will arrive at the Central Hall in a ceremonial procession. After the President-elect takes oath, a 21-Gun Salute will be given in his honour. Mukherjee will then deliver an address. He will be given by an inter-services guard of honour in the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhawan and courtesies will be extended to the outgoing President.

Meanwhile, government offices located in the buildings in and around North Block and South Block will remain closed for the first half today. Traffic restrictions will also be in place around Parliament House.
