The stage is all set for the launch of India's latest communication satellite GSAT-5P on board GSLV-F06 from the Satish Dhawan Space centre in Sriharikota at 4.04 this evening. Countdown for the launch which began at 10.04 yesterday morning is progressing well and as per schedule. ISRO spokesperson Mr. S.Satish told our Chennai correspondent that the process of filling liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen to the cryogenic stage which began this morning will end 30 minutes before the actual take off. GSAT-5P with 24 C-band transponders and 12 extended C-band transponders is meant for augmenting communication services currently provided by Indian National Satellite System. It will also give a boost tobroadcast programming, telemedicine, tele-education, and telephone services. The satellite, developed by ISRO Satellite Centre, Bangalore, has a designed mission life of 12 years. The launch of the satellite, which was originally scheduled on the 20th of this month, had to be postponed after a leak in the Russian cryogenic engine on board the launch vehicle.
