Stage set for last phase of Lok Sabha elections tomorrow

The stage is now set for polling in 41 constituencies in the ninth and final phase of Lok Sabha elections tomorrow. Polling will take place from 7 am to 6 pm except in some sensitive areas in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar where it will end at 4 p.m. The Election Commission is making elaborate security arrangements to ensure free and fair polling. Searches and raids have been intesified in hotels and lodges to vacate the outside campaigners and political workers who are not voters in the constituencies going to the polls to ensure smooth polling. Inter state borders and the border with Nepal of the constituencies in Bihar in this phase have been sealed.

The Lok Sabha constituencies which will go to the polls tomorrow are 18 in Uttar Pradesh, 17 in West Bengal and 6 in Bihar.

On the last day of campaign yesterday, leaders of all major political parties left no stone unturned to woo the voters in favour of their party candidates. Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, Aam Admi Party Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Samajwadi Party leader and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav held impressive road shows in the prestigious Varanasi Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh where BJP leader Narendra Modi is pitched against Arvind Kejriwal and Congress candidate Ajay Rai. Narendra Modi held rallies at four places in Uttar Pradesh at Kushinagar, Deoria, Robertsganj and Ballia yesterday. AIR correspondent has filed this report.
