Final touches are being given to arrangements for smooth and incident-free first phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh tomorrow. Fifty-five Assembly seats spread over 10 districts will go to polls in this phase. Our Lucknow Correspondent reports, flag marches were held yesterday at several places by Central para-military forces to instill confidence among the voters to exercise their right of franchise with out any fear. The Election Commission has deployed six senior police officers from other States as police observers to keep close eye on the security aspects. Inter-state and international borders with neighbouring Nepal has been sealed and check posts have been erected to stop entry of unwanted elements into polling areas. Eight sixty-two candidates are in the fray and there are more than one crore seventy lakh voters eligible to exercise their franchise. Meanwhile, electioneering is gradually picking up in other parts of the State. Top leaders of political parties are touring different parts to seek the support of the voters. Uttar Pradesh is going to polls in seven phases. The second phase of polling will be held on the 11th of this month and the last phase will take place on the 3rd of March. The election to the 40-member Goa Assembly will also be held on the 3rd of next month.
