In UP, the stage is set for peaceful conduct of polling tomorrow in 60 constituencies spread over 13 districts of Saharanpur, Meerut, Aligarh and Agra divisions. Over two Crore 11 Lakh voters will decide the fate of 1103 candidates including 86 females in this phase.
A total of 193 candidates including 8 females have been fielded by various national parties.
The election commission has made elaborate arrangement for peaceful polling in the area.
Over 21 thousand Polling Stations have been established while over 800 companies of central paramilitary forces have been deployed apart from state police personnel for free and fair elections.
The electioneering has reached on its peak in seventh and last phase areas of western and terai districts. Several prominent leaders are in the area campaigning in favour of their party candidates.
Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi held a road show in Shahjehanpur today. The election for 10 constituencies spread over 10 districts of Moradabad, Bareilly and Lucknow divisions will be held on 3rd of March.
Election authorities and observers have inspected strong room in Gorakhpur where EVMs have been kept following the reports of water seepage in strong rooms in Lucknow.
However, no irregularity has been found in safe-keeping of the EVMs. These EVMs will be opened on 6th of March when counting of votes will commence.
