Stage set for 2nd summit of FIPIC to be held in Jaipur tomorrow

The second summit of the Forum for India Pacific Island Cooperation, FIPIC to be held In Jaipur tomorrow. Head of state and senior officials of the 14 island countries shall participate in the summit. Prime Minister Narender Modi will address the summit tomorrow. The objective of summit is to strengthen trade and bilateral relations between India and pacific countries. <br/><br/>Union Minister of State for External Affairs General VK Singh will meet the Heads of participating countries. General Singh on reaching Jaipur expressed the hope that India will continue to get support of FIPIC countries in UN and other international platforms.<br/><br/>Heads of 14 pacific nations will start arriving in Jaipur tomorrow. They will visit historical place Amer fort in the forenoon. According to AIR Jaipur correspondent there will discussion on various issues of mutual interest and and some MOUs are likely to be signed.<br/><br/>The summit will focus on strengthening mutual cooperation in the areas like oil and natural gas, mining, information technology, healthcare, fishing, and ocean research. India will also try to give a message to the participating nations that it will be their "trusted partner" in the journey of development. India's bilateral trade with these countries is around 300 million dollars. Special emphasis will be laid on extending cooperation in the fields of disaster management and renewable energy. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary of Rajasthan reviewed and gave final shape to the preparations made in connection with the summit. Protocol, Security and traffic arrangements were discussed in the meeting.

Heads of state and senior officials of the fourteen island countries will participate in the summit. Prime Minister Narender Modi will address the summit tomorrow.<br/><br/>Mr. Modi during his visit to Fiji in 2014 had identified areas for cooperation including food processing, fisheries, solar energy, tele-medicine and climate change and proposed FIPIC summit to be held regularly. <br/><br/>A Forum for India Pacific Islands Cooperation FIPIC was set up, and the forthcoming summit in Jaipur is part of the process. The first FIPIC summit was held in Suva Fiji in November, 2014.<br/><br/>President of Nauru and Marshall Islands, Vice President of Micronesia, Prime Minister of Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Tuvalu, Samoa, Niue, Vanuatu, Deputy Prime Minister of Solomon Island, Agriculture Minister of Tonga, Health Minister of Cook Island and Special envoy of Kiribati are in India to participate in the FIPIC summit to be held at Jaipur tomorrow.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, delegates of India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) summit today visited Tajmahal and Shilpgram in the heritage city of Agra. Tourism and Culture Minister Dr Mahesh Sharma welcomed them and hosted lunch in their honour. The visiting dignitaries of 14 countries were also briefed on various ongoing programmes and schemes of Tourism Ministry.
