Stage set for 2nd phase of polling with six LS seats in NE states tomorrow

The stage is set for the second phase of elections with 6 Lok Sabha constituencies in North Eastern states to go for vote on Wednesday.

Of these, two seats each are in Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya and one each in Manipur, Nagaland.

Voting for the lone constituency in Mizoram, which was also scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed to Friday. Polling will also be held for 49 assembly seats of Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday.

In Manipur, all arrangements are completed for smooth conduct of polls on Wednesday for the reserved Outer-Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.

Polling will start at seven in the morning and will continue till four in the afternoon.

All the polling personnel have reached their destinations along with poll materials tonight.

Altogether nine lakh and 11 thousand voters including four lakh and 63 thousand female voters will exercise their franchise at 1,403 polling stations in the parliamentary constituency.

Altogether 10 candidates including sitting MP Thangso Baite of Congress, Prof. Gangmumei Kamei of BJP, Soso Lorho of Naga Peaople’s Front and former MP Kim Gangte of All India Trinamool Congress are in the electoral fray for the Lok Sabha seat.

In Arunachal Pradesh, polling will be held on Wednesday, in the second phase of elections, in 2 Lok Sabha seats and 49 Assembly seats.

Simultaneous voting will be held from 7 AM to 5 PM, one hour more than the earlier elections, for both the LS seats and 49 seats of the 60-member State Assembly.

Both the LS constituencies in the State- Arunachal East and Arunachal West-are the key-ones.

In Meghalaya, voting will begin at 7.00 am and will continue till 5.00 pm. There are 10 candidates in the frey for the two parliamentary seats – Shillong and Tura. Shillong seat faces a multi-cornered contest of eight candidates. Tura seat witnesses a straight contest between Former Lok Sabha Speaker, Purno A. Sangma of National People’s Party and Daryl William Chandra Momin of Congress.

Contestants for the Shillong seat are sitting MP, Vincent Pala of the Congress, Paul Lyngdoh of United Democratic Party , Richard Shabong of Communist Party of India, Shibun Lyngdoh, BJP, A. Kharshiing of Aam Admi Party and three Independents – P.B.M. Basaiawmoit, Denis Siangshai and Ivoryna Shylla, woman candidate.

Nagaland is also all set to go to polls on Wednesday. The parliamentary election to the lone Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland will be a three cornered contest.

Political fortunes of Chief Minister Niephiu Rio of the Naga People’s Front, Former Minister and NPCC president, K.V. Pusa of the Indian National Congress, and Akhie Achumi of the Socialist party (India) will be decided on Wednesday.

According to the election department, all arrangements are in place for the smooth conduct of polls in the state.
