Stage is all set for tomorrow's Assembly Elections in Himachal Pradesh. Polling will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Polling teams have started reaching polling booths situated in far flung areas.
Choppers have been pressed into service to ferry the polling staff and electronic voting machines to the booths inaccessible by road. More than 7,200 polling booths have been set up, including 2,019 sensitive and hyper-sensitive booths.
Sixty companies of para-military forces along with state police and surveillance teams will be keeping a strict vigil to ensure free and fair polling in a transparent manner. The campaigning for the election came to an end yesterday.
Although the main contest is between Congress and the BJP more than 30 rebel candidates from both the parties and 105 Independents can make a dent in their vote bank.
The presence of third front, the Himachal Lok Morcha consisting of Himachal Lokhit Party, a break away group of BJP and CPI (M) and CPI fielding 57 candidates also cannot be ignored. There is multi-cornered contest in most of the 68 assembly constituencies.
