Staff on relay strike: Govt asks PSU banks to stock ATMs

As public sector bank employees in North India go on strike today government has asked PSU banks to stock ATMs with enough cash and take steps to minimize inconvenience to customers. A press release issued by the finance ministry said that the government is fully seized of the situation arising out of the notice given by the United Forum Of Bank Unions (UFBU) for Zone-wise relay strikes from 2nd to 5th December. The government has also asked the banks to take pre-emptive steps to ensure least inconvenience to general public and to adequately load ATMs. To press for early wage hike, PSU bank employees in southern region went on day-long strike yesterday. About 22,000 branches of PSU banks were closed in South India and 1.5 lakh employees took part in the strike. Besides wage revision, bank unions have also demanded a reduction in the number of working days of employees to five days from six days as well as regulated working hours for officers.
