Shastra Seema Bal – SSB – has sought more legal powers to deal with the menace of cross- border infiltration and inflow of fake currencies from Nepal side.
Addressing a conference in New Delhi today, Director General of SSB Pranay Sahey said that they have asked for more powers from the government under Indian Passport Act and Excise Act to counter them. He expressed confidence that the force will get these additional powers very soon.
He said that they had arrested over 1500 people mainly from China and Korea who had transgressed through Indo-Nepal Border without valid papers this year.
The fake currency seized during this period was about 37500 rupees. He said that at Indo-Nepal border, SSB plans to start more 89 border posts to fight with the menace of fake currency and drug trafficking in next five years. At present there are 450 border posts.
