Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar dams have serious operational maintenance issues, warns Jal Shakti Ministery Adviser

Advisor to the Union Jal Shakti Minister, Sriram Vedire has warned the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states that the Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar dams have serious operational maintenance issues causing potential danger to the stability, in case repairs are not taken up immediately. Addressing a media conference in Hyderabad last evening, he clarified on Kaleswaram Lift Irrigation project and said the Medigadda barrage of the Project and other barrages are in danger.
''
'' The chairman of the Centre's Task Force on Interlinking of Rivers has made a PowerPoint presentation and explained about the 'failures' of the Congress and the BRS Governments in handling the various irrigation projects across the Krishna and Godavari Rivers. He asserted that only the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) alone can solve the contentious water-sharing issues between the two Telugu States and ensure maintenance work to the dams.
''
''The advisor ruled out the BRS' claims that the Medigadda and Annaram barrages of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) can still be used to pump water. He categorically said storing any water at any of the Kaleshwaram barrages would be a recipe for disaster. Mr Vedire also said the CWC never gave permissions for KLIS, something the BRS claims it received. He also ruled out the BRS's claim that the CWC had said not enough water was available at Tummidihatti, where the then Congress government had planned the Pranahita-Chevella project.
''
''He further said moving the project from Tummidihatti to Medigadda led to the project cost going up from 40,000 crore rupees to 1.2 lakh crore rupees.
