Srinagar-Leh National Highway reopenes

In Jammu and Kashmir, after a long gap of about six months the Srinagar Leh National Highway NH 1D was reopened for traffic at a function at Zojjila Pass Kargil. In the opening ceremony of the Zojjila Pass, the GOC 15 Corps Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain was the chief guest and he declared the Zojjila Pass open for traffic at 11.30 am today by cutting the ribbon. Talking to our Correspondent the SHO Drass informed that after the inauguration ceremony 20 light vehicles from Kargil had left towards Srinagar and movement of vehicles from Sonamarg towards Kargil started since afternoon. The SHO said that more than 200 light vehicles including passenger vehicles and vehicles carrying essential commodities were earlier stranded at Sonamarg and now are departing from Sonamarg towards Kargil. Meanwhile, the vegetable markets in Kargil and Leh have started to get a new look after a long gap of six months and the shop owners as well as the general public are happy on the reopening of the Zojjila Pass.
