Srilanka: Parliament Speaker Jayasuriya requests President Sirisena to reconsider his decision for prorogation of Parliament

<span style="color: #222222;">In Srilanka, parliament Speaker Karu Jayasuriya today requested President Maithripala Sirisena to reconsider his decision for prorogation of Parliament as it will have serious and undesirable consequences for the country. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">In a letter, Mr Jayasuriya drew President's attention to the convention that a prorogation should be done in consultation with the Speaker. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">He also called to ensure that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's privileges are protected until the parliament makes a decision on a Prime Minister due to the crisis situation prevailing in the country now. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The letter comes in wake of President's appointment of Mahinda Rajapakse as new Prime minister on Friday and issuing orders to prorogue Parliament till 16th November. Mr Sirisena is scheduled to address the nation this afternoon to explain the circumstances of his decision. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Meanwhile, group led by Mr Rajapakse asserted today that change of government had become an absolute necessity in wake of difficult circumstances prevailing in the country. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Addressing a press conference, the leaders said that there was a plot to assassinate President which became public weeks ago, but it was not seriously attended. They also held failure of government to hold provincial council elections and split in unity government as other important factors behind the decision. </span><br />
