Home Minister P Chidambaram today expressed confidence that the Justice Srikrishna Committee Report will generate a matured debate on the Telangana issue. In his opening remarks to the meeting convened to discuss the report, he urged the political parties of Andhra Pradesh to read the recommendations of the Justice Srikrishna Committee on Telangana with an open mind and give impartial, careful and thoughtful consideration to them. Mr. Chidambaram recalled the discussions held on 5th of January last year which he said had showed the way forward. The Home Minister Mr. Chidambaram expressed the hope that the discussions today will show the way forward. He expressed confidence that apart from political parties, people of Andhra Pradesh will also make valuable suggestions to move forward. He reiterated government’s intentions to find just, honourable and practicable solutions that has the widest measure of support among all stakeholders. Mr. Chidambaram said that it is necessary that peace, harmony and law and order situation is maintained in Andhra Pradesh. The Home Minister added that the copies of the report made available to the representatives of the political parties will require time to read it and they will have to hold consultations with their organisations. Mr. Chidambaram proposed that another meeting can be held later this month, if political parties agree to it. He however regretted that some of the parties did not attend today's meeting. Eight political parties were invited for discussions. Andhra Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and the representatives of Congress, PRP, AIMIM, CPIM and CPI are participating in the meeting.
