The Justice Srikrishna Committee report has evoked mixed reactions in Andhra Pradesh. Responding to the report, Telangana Rastra Samithi president K Chandrasekhara Rao has said nothing short of Telangana state with Hyderabad as capital would be acceptable for the people of the region. Stating that the Committee has not ruled out carving out Telangana State, Mr Rao demanded Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh not to dilly dally on the issue and come forward to carve out Telangana state. He also said the Telangana Joint Action Committee would spearhead the future agitation for separate state. Meanwhile, protest demonstrations were held in some parts of Telangana region. The movement of public transport buses was affected in Karimnagar and warnagal due to protests. In Hyderabad, at least 6 persons including a senior police officer were injured when the protests taken out by the Students Joint Action Committee of Osmania University turned violent. Denouncing the outcome of the report on Telangana, the Students’ JAC of Osmania University held protest demonstrations which led to incidents of stone pelting and lathicharge by police.Few Road Transport Corporation buses were damaged in the incidents. However, the police have brought the situation under control. Meanwhile, the Student Joint Action Committee of Osmania University has called for Telangana Bandh on Friday. Meanwhile, home minister Sabitha Indra Reddy has appealed to people of all sections to observe restraint and maintain peace and tranquility.
