Srikanth stuns Ponsana to clinch Thailand Open

India's talented youngster Srikanth K. today clinched the Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton trophy. In the Men's Singles title clash played this morning, 13th seed Srikanth brushed aside top seed and local favourite Boonsak Ponsana in straight games, 21-14, 21-18, to bag his career's maiden title.None of the other Indian shuttlers were able to stamp authority in the competition, which also saw defending champion Saina Newal bow out in the quarterfinals. Saina was stunned by lower seed Juan Gu of Singapore, 21-13, 12-21, 18-21. Top Indian in the tournament Ajay Jayaram, Anand Pawar, Sourabh Verma, HS Prannoy and Arundhati Pantawane had also failed to go beyond the last-8 stage.
