Pathum Nissanka etched his name in record books becoming the first player from Sri Lanka to score a double century in One Day International (ODI) cricket today.
The young opener dominated the Afghan bowling attack on his home ground, smashing a quick fire 210 runs from just 139 balls to power Sri Lanka to a massive total of 381 runs in the first ODI.
This historic feat puts Nissanka in an elite club of batsmen who have crossed the 200-run mark in ODIs. He joins the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, and Chris Gayle in this prestigious list. Meanwhile Pramod Madushan ripped through the Afghan top order with three scalps leaving the visiting side precariously placed at 27/3 at 6 overs in the first ODI at Pallekele. Afghanistan is scheduled to play two more ODI games before playing a three match T20 series.
