Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has said that he is committed to take measures to hold all future elections under the mixed electoral system while opposition MPs have termed it as a ploy to delay the elections. <br/><br/>Addressing a group of party workers at his residence last evening, the President emphasized that all elections in the country should be held under one election system and he is committed to create a new political culture in the country under the new system. The system calls for 60 : 40 ratio among candidates elected through first past the vote system and proportional representation system. <br/><br/>An opposition MP allied with former President Mahinda Rajapakse, however, termed the move as a ploy to delay the elections further. Elections to three provincial councils are due by end of the year but the government earlier brought a bill to hold elections to all nine provincial councils on a single day by postponing the scheduled elections this year. The bill was challenged by opposition saying such a change will require referendum. The local body elections have also been delayed in the country and opposition has alleged that government is scared of facing elections because of its poor performance.
