Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa sworn-in for a second term

The Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa was sworn-in for a second term in office this morning following his overwhelming victory at the January 26 election. Rajapaksa was sworn in by the Chief Justice Asoka De Silva at a colorful ceremony in Colombo. He began his first term in November 2005 which saw the defeat of Tamil Tiger rebels. Armed with a constitutional amendment lifting the two term limit on the Presidency , the Sri Lankan President began his next six year term with promise of economic growth of a war ravaged economy and infrastructure development to the people of the island nation . Rajapaksa turned 65 on Thursday.
