Sri Lankan President arrives in Kathmandu

The Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived in Kathmandu this afternoon on a three day visit to Nepal amidst tight security. He was received at the Tribhuvan Internationall Airport by the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala and Cultural Affairs Minister Dr. Minindra Rizal.During his stay President Rajapaksa will meet his Nepali counterpart Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and other top political leaders to discuss issues of bilateral interest.Our Kathmandu Correspondent reports that tomorrow, he will visit Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha to inaugurate a Buddhist monastery built by the Sri Lankan government. This is President Rajapaksa’s second visit to Nepal this year. He had earlier visited Kathmandu in March but he had to cut short his visit and returned home without visiting Lumbini following terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore in March this year. Rajapaksa is the first head of state to visit Nepal after it became a republic with abolition of monarchy last year.
