Sri Lankan Prime minister Ranil Wickremsinghe has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indian government for providing an efficient ambulance service to his country. <br/><br/>Addressing the MOU signing ceremony to expand the 1990 emergency ambulance service throughout Sri Lanka, Mr. Wickremsinghe said that the service was first announced for two provinces during Mr. Modi's first visit to Sri Lanka in 2015 and was expanded to the whole of country during his second visit last year. <br/><br/>Terming the service as invaluable, the Sri Lankan PM said the service is a very good example of close cooperation between the two countries. The MoU to expand the service was signed by Indian high commissioner to Sri Lanka Shri Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Sri Lankan deputy minister for national policies Harsh De Silva in Colombo this afternoon. <br/><br/>The service will be operated with an Indian grant of 15.2 million US dollars. As per the MOU, Indian company GVK will provide 209 ambulances and train around 1300 Sri Lankan personnel in emergency health care. <br/><br/>Earlier, India had provided 88 ambulances at a grant of 7.56 million US dollars for operating it in Western and Southern provinces. Indian High Commissioner Mr. Sandhu in his address said that the project is a classic case of job creation, technology transfer and innovation. He said India's bilateral relations are based on sharing and caring.
