Sri Lankan PM rejects allegations by President

<span style="color: #222222;">Sri Lankan Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has rejected allegations by President Maithripala Sirisena that he favoured an official, accused of wrongdoing.<br />'' <br />'' Mr. Wickremsinghe in a statement issued today termed the allegations as baseless and said he had never acted in contravention to the constitution.<br />'' <br />'' His comments came as President had accused Mr. Wickremsinghe of recommending an accused official for the post of Supreme Court judge.<br />'' <br />'' The Sri Lankan PM said he is unaware as to why President is directing accusations against him in this manner following the announcement of the Presidential election.<br />'' <br />'' He further said that if he or any of the ministers have any allegations levelled against them, it is best to discuss it within the confines of the Cabinet.<br />'' <br />'' Relations between the two leaders had nosedived after President attempted coup last year in which he replaced Mr. Wickremsinghe.<br />'' <br />'' Both also traded charges during the past couple of days over who was responsible for the emergency cabinet meeting called on Thursday to discuss the abolition of executive Presidency.<br />''<br />''The Presidential elections are scheduled for November 16th where Prime Minister's party is yet to finalise a candidate while the President's party is undecided over whom to support.</span><br />
