Sri Lankan parliament today supported the demand of striking plantation workers to raise their daily wage to 1000 Sri Lankan rupees. MPs cutting along party lines criticized Regional plantation companies (RPC) for their refusal to hike wages. <br />''  <br />'' The leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella told Parliament that the Government supports the demand that a daily wage of Rs. 1000 must be given to the plantation workers. He said they are having discussions on this with the plantation companies. Plantation workers, mainly of Indian Tamil origin, have been staging protests on the issue for several weeks.  <br />''  <br />'' The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) said that it also supports the demand. Regional Plantation Companies have so far refused to agree to the demand saying they cannot afford to have a steep hike from the existing 530 rupees per day.<br />''  <br />'' <br />
