Sri Lanka's navy chief has said that the Indian fishermen, who cross into their borders, should acknowledge the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) between the two countries and avoid crossing it.<br/><br/>Vice Admiral Tavis L. Sinniah, who took over as navy chief yesterday, told a press conference in Colombo today that they will realign their strategy to ensure that the number of trespassing and arrests of fishermen are reduced substantially.<br/><br/>He said that increased number of patrols along the IMBL, physical operations and better use of GPS are some of the measures planned for future. The navy chief said they work closely with Indian navy and coast guard to reduce such incidents but acknowledged that the problem, which exists for so many years, cannot be solved overnight.<br/><br/>Sri Lankan navy has been regularly arresting Indian fishermen on charges of poaching and currently 80 fishermen are in Sri Lankan custody.
