The Sri Lankan Navy arrested nine Indian fishermen along with two boats last night on charges of poaching into their waters north of Delft island. <br/><br/>A Navy spokesman told our Colombo correspondent that the fishermen have been handed over to Karainagar fisheries department for further legal action. The spokesman said, some more arrests were reported this morning but the number is yet to be confirmed.<br/><br/>With the latest arrests, the total number of Indian fishermen in Sri Lankan custody has gone up to 24. It comes soon after 77 Indian fishermen were released from the Lankan custody last week. Sri Lanka has been releasing Indian fishermen from time to time on humanitarian grounds but the boats are mostly retained.<br/><br/>The fishermen issue has been a lingering problem between the two countries and both sides have formed a Joint Working Group to discuss the issue.
