Sri Lankan Navy arrested five fishermen from Rameswaram Tamil Nadu and detained their country fishing boat today. The fishermen were fishing near Mannar when Sri Lankan Navy apprehended them. Earlier Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging the release of thirty four fishermen lodged in Lankan jail. <br/><br/>There is tension in fishermen hamlets of Rameswaram and Pamban as Sri Lankan Navy apprehended five fishermen when they were fishing in country boat. Normally Sri Lankan Navy spares fishermen in country boats and apprehends only Tamil fishermen in mechanized boats using erattaimadai nets. <br/><br/>Lankan Navy also detained country fishing boat and arrested the five fishermen from Rameswaram. <br/><br/>The distance between Sri Lankan waters and Ramewsaram is only a few kilometers that fishermen from Tamil Nadu often cross maritime boundary line. <br/><br/>Local fishermen want a lasting solution to the fishermen issue and urge immediate release of 34 fellow fishermen languishing in Lankan jail and 95 boats detained by Lanka.
