Sri Lankan Navy arrests 26 Indian fishermen

Sri Lankan Navy arrested 26 Indian fishermen in 5 trawlers last night near the coast of Karainagar near Jaffna. Speaking to All India Radio, spokesperson for Sri Lanka Navy, Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said the arrests have been made inside the maritime boundary of Sri Lanka. He said that the fishermen have been taken to the Kytes Island and handed over to the Fisheries Department for legal action.

Officials of Indian Consulate General in Jaffna are making efforts to get the fishermen released at the earliest.
