Sri Lankan Navy arrests 11 more Tamil fishermen

Sri Lankan Navy has arrested 11 more Tamil fishermen when they were fishing near international maritime boundary line last night. The fishermen are said to be from Rameswaram Thankachimadom according to local fishermen sources. Meanwhile, the Tamil fishermen from Nagapattinam are expecting the release of fellow fishermen lodged in Lankan jail soon. <br/><br/>"The fishermen hamlets in Nagapattinam Pudukottai Jagadapattinam and Rameswaram are eagerly awaiting the release of 126 Tamil fishermen from Lankan jail before Diwali. The local fishermen say that till now they are not in Diwali festive mood as fellow fishermen are languishing in Lankan jails. Sri Lanka has detained more than 40 fishing boats of Tami fishermen as deterrent measure and this has badly affected their livelihood. <br/><br/>Tamil fishermen are urging the government to secure the immediate release of fishermen lodged in Lankan jail and also secure the release of their fishing boats. The Tamil Nadu government had issued a statement saying that the Tamil fishermen will be released well before Diwali and simultaneously Sri Lankan fishermen lodged in Indian jails will be released. <br/><br/>Tamil Nadu government has urged the central government to retrieve Kachatheevu islands so that Tamil fishermen can fish in their traditional waters without being confronted by Sri Lankan Navy.
